Note
It expresses the number of voluntary environmental or social certifications in Barcelona that are in force on 31 December of the year of the report. It includes the following types:
• Number of organisations with an EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) environmental management system, a certification granted by the European Commission. Given that the scope of the certification may vary, each organisation may have one or more certified centres.
• Number of responsible tourism certifications: Biosphere, certification granted by the Responsible Tourism Institute (ITR). Includes the Hotel Biosphere and Biosphere World Class Destination labels.
• Number of buildings with a construction and maintenance certificate with one of the following certificates: BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology, certification granted by BREEAM Spain), LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, certification granted by the US Green Building Council) and GBCe - VERDE (certification granted by the Green Building Council Spain).
• Number of companies offering products or services with the European Ecolabel, a certification granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
• Number of companies offering products or services with the Environmental Quality Assurance Label
(DGQA), a certificate granted by the Generalitat de Catalunya. This label certifies a variety of activities, including cultural facilities (libraries and museums), theatres and art spaces, youth facilities, buildings for use as offices, networks of offices with public access, products that promote water saving, photographic finishing establishments, hotel establishments, vehicle fleets, vehicle parks, vehicle workshops, production of raw materials and recycled plastic, and production of compostable material.
• Number of companies that have signed voluntary agreements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, an initiative led by the Generalitat de Catalunya.
